 As befits an ex-Klaatu member, Terry Draper continues to write symphonic, artful, Beatlesque pop songs about alien worlds and earthly memories, among other things. “We’re Not Alone” was actually written for a Klaatu reunion that never quite materialized, and is one of those open-ended lyrics that could be delivered from Klaatu to their fans, from man on earth to the aliens out there, or from mankind as a whole to God up in heaven. The harmonies, strings and melody will captivate anybody who misses the old Klaatu sound and substance, for sure. There are a few songs here that deal with fond remembrances of Draper’s early and beloved days in Yorkville at the height of its hippie prime – “Light Years Later” waves bye-bye to that scene, and “Here’s To You” toasts an absent friend from the era. “Winter In Peru” is a harsh blues that deals with addiction, while “I Don’t Care About That” offers even harder, metallic stuff about the nasty end of a ten-year relationship. It may be light years later, but there’s no doubt that Terry Draper’s still got it goin’ on. |
